Simon Brönnimann to lead SFMA Recovery and Resolution division

SFMA has appointed Simon Brönnimann as Head of Recovery and Resolution and as a member of the Executive Board from 1 June 2026.

SFMA's Board of Directors has appointed Simon Brönnimann as Head of the Recovery and Resolution division and as a member of the Executive Board. He will take over the division permanently on 1 June 2026 after leading it on an interim basis since April 2026.

The appointment followed an internal and external search. Brönnimann succeeds Alain Girard, who became Head of the Banks division on 1 April 2026.

Brönnimann, 44, has worked at SFMA since 2007. Before his interim Recovery and Resolution role, he served for seven months as interim Head of the Banks division. From 2024 to 2025, he led the Supervision of Small Banks and Securities Firms section. From 2015 to 2023, he headed supervision of UBS and the CS Group and later the follow-up work after the Credit Suisse crisis.

Earlier in his career, Brönnimann held several banking supervision roles at SFMA and its predecessor organisation. He began with a banking apprenticeship, worked in lending at a Swiss regional bank, holds a master's degree in economics and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

SFMA said Brönnimann brings deep financial-sector knowledge, broad practical experience and strong relationships with national authorities and international supervisors, positioning him to guide the division's long-term development.
